The Redd on Salmon Wedding | Kelsi + Joe

The Redd on Salmon is one of those venues that already looks good before anyone does anything to it. Joe and Kelsi’s wedding was a great fit for the space. Modern, stylish, relaxed, and most importantly, everyone was there to have a good time.

A Wedding at The Redd on Salmon

The Redd sits in Portland’s Central Eastside and has the industrial feel you’d expect, but it’s actually a thoughtfully designed space. High ceilings, exposed beams, steel, huge windows. There’s enough going on architecturally that you don’t have to fill every corner with decor to make it interesting.

Joe and Kelsi kept things clean and intentional, which worked really well in the room. Their ceremony was in the main hall with a ton of natural light coming through the windows. It’s a big space, but once everyone was in there it still felt intimate.

The florals were simple, the room looked great, and the ceremony itself felt like them. Emotional, funny, not overly produced. There were tears. There was laughing. All the good stuff.

From Ceremony to Reception

One of the things I really like about weddings at The Redd is that there’s room for everything to happen without the day feeling crowded. You can have a pretty substantial guest list and people still have space to move around, grab a drink, talk to somebody, whatever.

Joe and Kelsi used long communal tables for the reception, which helped make the larger room feel warm and connected. Meanwhile, the open layout gave everyone plenty of room to move around and actually enjoy themselves.

Dinner moved into speeches, speeches moved into dancing, and then the whole thing properly turned into a party.

And Then the Party Started

Their Aussie DJ absolutely delivered. The dance floor stayed full, people got sweaty, ties started coming loose. Exactly what you want.

I’ve photographed enough weddings at this point to know that if people are still going hard late into the reception, things have gone pretty well. More importantly, Joe and Kelsi were right there in the middle of it.

As good as everything looked, though, what I liked most about this wedding was Joe and Kelsi and the people around them. They were present. They weren’t worried about creating moments for the camera or making everything look like a wedding they’d seen somewhere else. Instead, they just seemed genuinely happy to be getting married and hanging out with everyone they love.

The Stuff Happening Around the Edges

I’m always looking around the edges of the obvious stuff anyway. The looks across the room, family dynamics, someone trying to keep it together during a speech, whatever is happening three tables away while everyone else is looking at the dance floor.

Those are usually the pictures that end up telling you what the wedding actually felt like. And there was plenty of that here.

Ultimately, that’s also why The Redd worked so well for this wedding. It gave everyone enough room to do their thing without the space itself disappearing. It photographs really well, there’s plenty of room, and it has enough personality that you don’t have to work too hard to turn it into something interesting.

Joe and Kelsi took a great space, filled it with their people, and had a hell of a party.

Hard to argue with that.
