The Ruins in Hood River Wedding

Some weddings have one incredible backdrop. Nicole and Chester somehow ended up with two.

Their day started at Chester’s grandfather’s home just outside Hood River. There, 125 friends and family gathered beneath a blue August sky with Mt. Hood standing quietly in the background. It didn’t feel like a wedding venue in the traditional sense. That was exactly what made it special. The ceremony took place somewhere deeply personal, on land that’s been part of their family’s story long before this wedding became part of it.

After the ceremony, everyone made the short drive into downtown Hood River for a reception at The Ruins, one of the most distinctive wedding venues in the Columbia River Gorge. The contrast couldn’t have been better. A private family property overlooking orchards and mountains gave way to weathered brick walls, towering steel beams, and an open-air courtyard. It somehow feels both historic and effortlessly modern. It’s easy to see why this venue has become such a favorite.

What I loved most, though, wasn’t the scenery. It was the way the day felt. Nicole and Chester weren’t trying to create a perfectly curated wedding. They were creating a day that reflected them. Their first look happened with Mt. Hood in the distance. Later that evening, everyone danced beneath the old cannery walls. Every part of the celebration felt relaxed, joyful, and genuinely personal.
